Full-Day Kindergarten

Our full-day kindergarten curriculum sets the standard for the values and high-quality education your child will receive in years to come. This academic, challenging, and fun filled program gives students an outstanding preparation for the rest of their school experience.

Morning Meeting

We start our day with circle time. This is where we come together as a group and learn to become a community at St. Bridget School. It is during circle time that the children build self-esteem and self-worth. It is a time for sharing and reflecting on what we have accomplished and what is yet to come. This is a critical piece of learning for five and six year olds.

As a class, we share a morning prayer and pledge allegiance to the flag. The students participate in a calendar exercise where we discuss what day it is and where the day falls in relation to the rest of the school year. The children are also involved in observing and identifying the day's weather. These activities engage the children in the world around them.

A particularly fun part of our morning ritual is the "100-Day Count." Each day we count what day it is in the year, and on the 100th day, we celebrate with a party.

Teaching Across the Curriculum

With a full-day kindergarten, we are able to teach across the curriculum. We are able to take a unit and cover it from all angles, such as math, science, social studies, and writing. Some of our major units that we cover are Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, oceans, dinosaurs, pond life, and the rainforest. We also cover a smaller unit each week, depending on the month.

The children spend a portion of their day split into two groups, the Patriots and the Red Sox, where smaller group instruction is given. During this time there is a 15 to 1 student-teacher ratio. We have two classrooms where the children spend their time during this part of the day. One room is primarily for academics, while the other room is set up for all sorts of centers such as housekeeping, blocks, and centers for O/T (fine motor skills), seasonal art activities, and free choice, all of which are academically based.

The Kindergarten Celebration

As we wind down our school year, we work very hard to put on a graduation/celebration to end our school year. This performance shows our parents how we have grown and flourished throughout our very first year in school. It is always a big hit!

The Letter People

The letter people are a big hit in kindergarten. As a new letter of the alphabet is introduced to the class, we get a visit form the Letter Person from "Letter People Land".

Kindergarten Screening Needed for Admissions

January 2008

Please be aware that in order to provide a quality education for all at St. Bridget’s School, our Admissions Policy for Kindergarten will now include a Kindergarten screening. Many factors determine a child’s readiness for kindergarten. Among them are the child’s chronological age, social and emotional maturity, academics needs, as well as fine and gross motor skills. Children will be evaluated based upon their readiness through the use of a screening inventory. This will be a helpful tool for the teacher to determine the child’s level of readiness. It, also, will help our staff advise parents on programs. Our number one priority will always be to provide the best possible education for each and every child. The screening will take place in early March. Parents will be notified of the date and time that they should bring their child in for screening.
