Sending Student Home Due to Sickness

In the event of illness or injury during school hours, each student must have on record a current Emergency Notification Card that lists emergency contacts. Parents must notify the school of contact information changes as they occur.

Prior to dismissal, the school will call the parent/guardian or others on the contact on the Emergency Notification Card to determine who will pick up the student to ensure proper chain of custody. The student must be picked up promptly. Do not send to school a student who has a fever. The student should be free of fever for 24 hours before returning to school.

Medical - General

The school nurse is available most days from 10:00AM – 1:00PM. The nurse may provide students with basic and temporary first aid.

Parents must provide the school nurse with updates to relevant and notable medical conditions. The nurse then updates the student’s medical file.

Medical Emergencies

In emergency situations, the contacts on the Emergency Notification Card are called first. If necessary, the student will be transported by professionals to an emergency medical facility for care.

There is now a defibrillator in the school and in the church. All teachers and administrative staff have been trained on the usage of the defibrillator

Administering Medication

Only the school nurse, authorized to do so in writing by a doctor, may administer oral medication. The authorization form must be on file in the nurse’s office. The medication must be in the original manufacturer or pharmacy container, and it must be properly identifiable with contents, dosage, and student name.

If the parent provides written permission, a child requiring Benadryl (or similar) may self-administer in the absence of the nurse.

Only the nurse or EMT can administer an epi-pen (or similar).

School Will Notify Parents of Medical Conditions

The school follows the state-mandated protocols regarding identified health conditions, for example, whooping cough.

Parents who are pregnant or who have impaired immune systems may call the school nurse regarding confirmed illnesses within the student body, for example, Fifths Disease, Chicken Pox, Mumps, and so on. Please call the nurse from 10:00AM – 1:00PM.
